DNS Tools Platform
Fast DNS, MX, SPF, and DKIM diagnostics for domain administrators and deliverability troubleshooting.
This project is a public tool suite for domain administrators who need quick, accurate DNS lookups without installing CLI tools. It aggregates record types relevant to email delivery and general DNS health, with readable output suitable for support tickets and client handoffs.
We optimized for low time-to-first-result and clear explanations when records are missing or misconfigured.
Challenge
Support teams repeatedly ran manual dig commands and pasted output into tickets. SPF and DKIM checks were especially confusing for non-DNS specialists, and slow upstream lookups frustrated users on shared hosting.
The client wanted one branded destination that could be linked from documentation and onboarding emails.
Solution
We built a Next.js front end with server-side lookup routes that normalize responses into consistent JSON and human-readable sections. Common flows—MX verification, SPF flattening hints, DKIM selector probes—are first-class pages with copy that explains what “good” looks like.
Caching layers reduce repeat queries; rate limiting protects upstream resolvers. The app deploys as a standard Node production build with monitoring on error rates and latency.
Key deliverables
- Unified DNS lookup for A, AAAA, CNAME, TXT, MX, and NS records
- Dedicated SPF and DKIM diagnostic views
- MX priority sorting and plain-language summaries
- Shareable result URLs for support threads
- Rate limiting and caching for popular domains
- Mobile-friendly layout for field troubleshooting
- Structured metadata for SEO on tool landing pages
Outcome
Support and onboarding teams link to a single toolkit instead of exchanging raw terminal output. Users get faster answers on mail routing and authentication records, which shortens email deliverability investigations.
